Healthy pancake recipes to try at home

We share quick and easy pancake recipe ideas with which to open up to new ways of preparing this dish.

Thinking of some  delicious crepe recipes   may lead you at first to imagine them with chocolate, cream, dulce de leche, maple syrup or even with ice cream, jam or nutella… And for that reason alone you might consider eliminating them from your diet for not being strictly healthy. Check out more interesting articles on our site.

However, this recipe has variables in its preparation that make it a good option for practically any diet.

A good alternative so that crepe recipes do not involve an excess of calories and so that they are healthier is to eliminate white flour from the dough recipe and accompany them with fruit or other ingredients to prepare them in their salty version, thus substituting the excess of sweet that would make us give up on them.

By preparing crepe recipes with healthier ingredients, we will be managing to provide our body with products with a high nutritional value. Eggs are rich in vitamins (B12, A, D, B2, pantothenic acid, biotin and niacin) and minerals (phosphorus, zinc, selenium). In addition, they contain protein.

Meanwhile, milk is a source of calcium and, as a consequence, helps strengthen bones. For its part, olive oil provides vitamins E, A, D and K.

In addition, they have fewer calories than we think. With white flour and sugar, they come to about 90 calories, but if you use sweetener and wholemeal flour, they are less. They also do not contain much saturated fat and the cholesterol content is relatively low.

No sugar or butter. To make delicious whole-grain pancakes , it is necessary to prepare the dough with: whole-wheat flour, vegetable or skimmed milk and egg. This is a very quick proposal, very nutritious and very easy to prepare. A very rich alternative option to commercial cereals to enjoy special breakfasts.

We can accompany them with our favorite seasonal fruits: strawberries, kiwis, red fruits, bananas…

The quantities that we will put below are for about 15 crepes.

Guy:Breakfast, snack or dessert

  • 4 eggs
  • 250g wholemeal flour
  • 600 ml of milk (vegetable or skimmed)
  • sweetener to taste
  • Season’s fruit

Preparation methods

  • Beat the eggs.
  • Add the milk and beat again.
  • Add the wholemeal flour. Mix until you get a lump-free dough.
  • Heat a frying pan and cover the base with a light layer of olive oil.
  • With the help of a saucepan, take a little of the dough and pour it into the pan, moving it in circles so that it spreads over the entire surface.
  • As soon as you see that it has browned on one side, grab it by one corner and turn it over.

Preparation time: 30 minutes

Another option to make crepe recipes with a healthier dough is to replace the flour with oatmeal (you can buy oatmeal or grind the oatmeal in a mill).

The dough can be made once a week, kept in the fridge and kept on hand to prepare them quickly when we feel like it, giving them a quick heat in the pan over and over. To accompany them we suggest its sweet version with melted dark chocolate, in its salty version with avocado, tomato and a little fresh cheese.

The quantities that we will put below are for about 15 crepes.

Guy:Breakfast, snack or dessert

  • 4 eggs
  • 250 g of oatmeal
  • 600 ml of milk (vegetable or cow)
  • sweetener to taste
  • Olive oil to grease the pan

Preparation methods

  • Beat the eggs, adding the milk and sweetener (sugar, honey…).
  • Add the oatmeal and beat again until the dough is smooth.
  • Heat a frying pan and grease it thoroughly with a little oil (the excess can be removed with a paper napkin, and this process will be repeated when we see that it dries).
  • Pour the dough little by little with a saucepan, spreading it over the entire surface of the pan and trying to make it thin.
  • When it’s done on one side, flip it over so it’s done on the other: you can help flip it over with a spatula or encourage it to flip in the air with a good flick of the wrist (which is much more fun!).

Preparation time: 30 minutes

Do you prefer a saltier version? If you add some protein, you will have a very complete breakfast or snack . Your kids will love it, you’ll see.
